Danang to host international paramotor competition

IV - Danang International Paramotor Competition 2012 - DIPC will be held at East Sea Park, Son Tra district, Da Nang City within 5 days (from May 23 to 27, 2012) with the participation of about 50 international athletes.

Information is given on February 14, at the meeting of Da Nang city Vice Chairman Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh and Mr. Shinji Kake, General Manager of AiREA Company (Japan) - consultancy agency, and representative of C.A.T.I JSC (Da Nang) which organizes the competition.

Expected to have 50 athletes in 8 international teams from Japan, Korea, China, Spain, Germany, Britain, France, the United States participate.

The teams will participate in 4 examinations: point counting flying, speed flying, fomation flying and rescue flying.

The privately funded budget spending on the contest is estimated to be around VND 15 billion.

This is the first time Danang hosts an international paramotor event. The city has been expreriencing a busy year with an abundant amount of visitors and international recognition. My Khe, the most renowned beach of Danang has been listed as one of the six most attractive beaches on the planet.

Vietnam in Top 10 Best Value Destination for 2012 by Lonely Planet

IV - The world’s famous travel guide, Lonely Planet has rated the Mekong Delta of Vietnam ninth out of 10 best value destinations for 2012.

“The uniquely southern charm with its welcoming introduction to life along the river is the real draw, and visitors can explore quaint riverside towns, sample fruits bartered in the colorful floating markets or dine on home-cooked delicacies before overnighting as a homestay guest” said Lonely Planet’s publication.

Lonely Planet listed some must-haves in a trip to the Mekong Delta and recommended travelling cost considered valuable in Vietnam in general and Mekong Delta in particular.

The other nine top destinations are Northeastern of the US, Japan, Tajikistan, Porto in Portugal, Lesotho, Iquitos in Peru, San Francisco in USA, Ohrid in Macedonia and Mérida, Mexico.

Earlier, US Tourism Association (USTOA) named Vietnam as one of the top destinations for 2012.

Free Wifi provided in Hoi An

IV - Hoi An will become the first city in Vietnam and Southeast Asia to provide free provide Wifi over the entire area.

Mr Ho Quang Buu, the Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Quang Nam Province, said that according to the plan, in late February 2012, 350 wireless base broadcasting stations will be installed in Hoi An city to provide wireless Internet (Wifi) free of charge to meet the needs of tourists and local residents alike.

Before that, during the Lunar New Year Festival of Dragon, visitors were able to access free Wifi from 50 broadcasting stations located in the ancient town.

In February, the Department of Information and Communications is coordinating with the Vietnam Data Communication Centre 3 (VDC3) and Quang Nam telecommunications to install 350 broadcasting stations providing wireless Internet access all over the city to better meet the Internet needs of tourists.

Thus, Hoi An will become the first city in Vietnam and in Southeast Asia to have full Wifi coverage over the area. This will be another advantage to attract tourists to Hoi An.

The project to provide a Wifi signal free of charge is invested with approximately 23 billion VND from socialization capital. This model will be researched and may be replicated in other tourist cities like Vung Tau and Ha Long.
