Set in the Central Vietnam highland city of Dalat, the region was popularised by French occupation at the turn of the 20th century. Alexandre Yersin, a contemporary of the famed Louis Pasteur discovered and pioneered the location that is now known as Dalat in approximately 1897. With the cool European climate (the area sits at an altitude of 1500 metres above sea level) and the rolling mountainous, pine treed terrain, Dalat became the summer hill-station retreat for royalty and high society.
Sited on approximately 35 acres of suburban parkland that forms its own unique compound, the area Evason Ana Mandara Villas Dalat occupies was originally known as the 'Bellevue Quarter', a nod to the rich French influence. Striking views of the surrounding town, countryside and flourishing vegetable fields abound from all areas of the gently sloping hillside property.
Of the seventeen villas on site, fifteen have been converted into fully serviced hotel accommodations with the remaining two villas being converted into our Restaurant and Six Senses Spa, respectively.

A natural man-made park
The retreat has hundreds of bonsai and flowers that are gorgeous and will never fail to strike admiration in every heart, but it is a host of cultural replicas scattered throughout the park that catch the eye.
The Great Wall of China is 6,700 kilometers long from east to west, 1,000 kilometers at its highest point and has existed for over two centuries.
Mong Mo Hill presents a two-kilometer long version of this amazing monument that offers visitors a chance to reflect on the real history that happened far away, a long time ago, aided by that well known Vietnamese saying: Bat dao truong thanh phi hao han (One cannot be a hero if one has never set foot on the Great Wall).
The park is at its best early in the morning, it seems, as one listens to the real sounds of the artificial waterfall, and observes a flock of pigeons perched on a 300-year-old house transported from central Binh Dinh Province.
Other park attractions include a stage for cong chieng (gong) shows that are performed by the ethnic minority from the plateau every weekend.
At the end of some stone steps is the wine cellar displaying a variety of ruou can (fermented rice wine that’s sipped from a ceramic jar through long bamboo straws).
Local wines are on sale here for souvenir shopping, or visitors may pause at the rattan table and chairs for a cup of wine before continuing their walk.
A few houses on stilts, museums in their own right, including a traditional brewery where visitors can get a first-hand look at how locals make their wine and catch warm wine drops from a large brewing pot, offer other opportunities to relax and unwind.

Da Lat: an unknown mossery

The city is remembered by travelers for many things: Winding mountain roads that twist and turn through lush valleys, crop fields and orchards.
Cold gusts of wind at dawn, patches of wild yellow sunflowers, canopies of pink peach blossoms and hillsides covered with mimosa flower carpets.
Mysterious streets steeped in vanishing fog, roses by a hedge or the branch of a tree tilting down a slope.
But few take a second to stop and admire the moss. Sounds silly, but its beautiful.
If you look closely, you’ll also see bright green moss creeping up the cobblestone stairwells and alleys that navigate the city’s backstreets.
You’ll see the fuzzy green designs crawling up walls along marketplaces and old shop houses.
Moss grows on rock throughout the city, sometimes turning from green to bright yellow or bright red.
It’s like a smooth velvet carpet on the town’s small hilly roads, sharing space with ferns, weeds and flowers alike.
It climbs up the walls of century-old houses and tiled roofs. It enjoys both traditional Vietnamese houses as well as historic French villas and sparkling new mansions.
It clutches to the feet of the pines, plum trees and peach trees.
Such is Da Lat, a city built into the forest, where the forests’ moss has gently taken some of it back.
